Sightseeing in Sydney's Blue Mountains

Sydney's Blue Mountains top sights and attractions

What sights to see in Sydney's Blue Mountains?

"Sydney's" Blue Mountains

Once Sydney's beaches and Sydney Harbour have been "done", the next most common sight that everybody wants to see the see is the Blue Mountains (are the Blue Mountains really blue?). Whilst not really in Sydney, the Blue Mountains are close enough to be "claimed" as part of Sydney's wider family. The Blue Mountains is one of those places that can really give your camera a good work out.

The Three Sisters, Blue Mountains

Three Sisters, Blue Mountains

The spectacular Three Sisters at Echo Point is a natural attraction that you can’t help but admire. The unquestionable beauty of this amazing rock formation changes throughout the day and throughout the seasons

Katoomba

Katoomba is the unofficial "Capital" of the Blue Mountains. The town has numerous cafes, shops and the Candy Store, an old-time lolly shop in nearby Leura, that attracts sweet teeth from home and overseas.

Scenic Railway and Skyway

The famous Scenic Railway operates in the original cutting in the mountain side from the Katoomba Coal Mine that gave birth to the town. The Scenic Railway is the steepest railway incline in the world and is now one of the most popular man-made tourist attractions in Australia. The ride takes you down the steep descent past Orphan Rock, through a tunnel and the beautiful fern-damp cliff face.

Blue Mountains Sceniscender

Adjacent to the Scenic Railway is the new Sceniscender, the steepest aerial cable car in Australia. The Sceniscender takes you on a 545 metre ride into the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area rainforest of the Jamison valley. Also at the same site is the magnificent Scenic Skyway.

Blue Mountains Skyway

The original Skyway was Australia’s first cable Skyway for passengers and was built in 1958. The new Skyway can carry up to 84 passengers across the Jamison Valley at a height of 200 metres. The views are breathtaking.

Cliff Drive

From the Scenic Railway west along Cliff Drive you will discover Eaglehawk Lookout and Landslide Lookout. Nearby is the Katoomba Christian Convention Centre. Further along Cliff Drive take a walk to Narrow Neck lookout. There is also Cahills Lookout to experience overlooking the magnificent Megalong Valley.

Katoomba Falls

Driving east along Cliff Drive from the Scenic Railway you can discover the Cascades and walk to Katoomba Falls. Take Prince Henry Cliff Walk to Cliff View Lookout, Wollumai Lookout, Allambie Lookout and Lady Darly Lookout within Lilianfels Park offering Picnic and BBQ facilities.

Three Sisters and the worlds steepest Scenic Railway and Cableway
